Once a week we’ll tell you the upcoming daily celebrations & the articles you may have missed.
At every baby shower you usually receive at least one Keepsake Album. I wonder how many actually get filled out? For myself – and everyone I know – new moms are just too busy to keep returning to the book throughout the baby’s first year to fill in the blanks.
Here’s something easy-breezy that is much more meaningful.
When my babies outgrew their little outfits I folded them up and put them in a ziploc bag with photos of the special day they wore it.
- The outfit they wore home from the hospital
- The outfit they wore for their “first” of every calendar holiday
- The halloween costume they wore
- Their special birthday hat and bib
- Their christening outfit
- The red velvet Christmas dress or suit
As they grew older I added their first lock of cut hair, artwork, school pictures and awards to their box as well.
Yes I had good intentions like every other mother, but I didn’t scrapbook for my child’s whole lifetime and never got around to filling out the keepsake album. I really needed something that was easier to make sure it actually got done. The best part is that when you hold up the darling little outfits and shoes you remember how little they were, that baby smell that got locked in the ziploc bag, and it triggers more memories than just a blank filled out on a page or even a beautifully creative – but one dimensional – scrapbooking page.
My three kids are all 20-something now and have had the fun of showing the contents of their remember box to their special girlfriend or boyfriend over the years. Some day they can show it to their spouses and then their own kids.
Wanna know what I use for this special remember box? A good ole reliable Rubbermaid Tote Box! (In fact, they each have several with their names on it now.)
