In one of her recent posts Mitzi shared how she had an ongoing Scrabble competition with her husband and how as a writer she could beat his pants off in the beginning until he learned a few strategies of his own.
I can really relate. Although my husband has his Masters Degree, he is a horrid speller (sorry, darling!) and as a writer myself I almost always won. The turning point in his Scrabble skills was the word “id” – after that he used the same strategy as Mitzi’s hubby and went with small words for the win!
Now this is where Mitzi wins more brownie points than me – and how I wish I came up with this idea. She bought a Scrabble Champion t-shirt for the previous week’s winner to wear while they were playing this week’s game. Wowza!
When your kids get old enough to play games too its time to institute a Family Game Night – because there’s nothing that makes a family bond like a little competition!
You can pump up the fun by purchasing a small trophy at your local dollar store or department store, but where’s the fun in that? Make it a family project to create your own trophy.
You can affix a figure to the bottom of a plastic flowerpot and spray paint it or create a LEGO trophy as shown here >
Or go for the gusto and create a huge monstrosity befitting a Family Game Night Champ with the family contributing ideas!
Thanks Mitzi for the inspiration.
