How to Ask Twitter What People Are Talking About
Read Your Tweets
You’re probably following other bloggers, companies and friends who are interested in your blog niche, so scanning the Tweets that come up on your home page will offer a plethora of ideas.
Here’s one I found today:
I collect ideas for random acts of kindness and love the idea of dedicating a week to sending thank you cards or cheer up cards or I love you cards to someone is a great idea. I can take it to the next level and send flowers, chocolates – whatever.
Check What’s Trending
Log on to your Twitter account. Click on the #Discover button in the taskbar – see green arrow.
Twitter shows your the trending topics at the moment – see blue arrow.
Chances are – unless you’re blogging about the leading edge of technology, celebrity gossip or the latest news events – those topics won’t be very helpful. Let’s go to the next level by searching by category.
Still on the same page, click on the Browse Categories section – see the green arrow.
You will now see a list of categories. When you select a category, it will suggest several different blogs that you can follow for that topic. You can choose to follow them, or you can click through to see what they’re talking about today to get ideas for now.
When you type a topic into the search bar the results will show twitter accounts about the topic or with that term in their “@name”. Again, you can choose to follow them or click through to see what they’re talking about to see if it offers you ideas.
To find blog post topics for my zombie website, I typed in ZOMBIE. One of the interesting Twitter accounts is by Zombie Training.
When I skimmed through their Tweets I saw that they had a Twitter Party during the Walking Dead tv show – great idea.
I also saw a couple of Tweets that stirred my imagination.
I can write a blog post about creating a drinking game to play while watching a zombie movie or tv program (not necessarily alcoholic drinks – how about punch called zombie blood?).
Zombie survival plans are important to the genre – people argue back and forth constantly about what would or wouldn’t work, what’s the BEST plan, etc – so a blog post about having more than one plan would be a great idea.
After clicking through and scanning several Twitter accounts you should be able to come up with one idea – if not a whole list – for your blog topics.
